Frequently asked questions

How much laminate should I add for waste?

Add 5–7% for straight laying and 10–15% for diagonal or herringbone patterns. Rooms with many corners, pipes or doorways need the higher figure.

Do I need to include underlay in my estimate?

Yes. Underlay is usually sold in rolls covering the same area as the floor, so the underlay area equals the room area. Some laminate comes with underlay attached.

How many packs of laminate do I need?

Divide the floor area plus waste by the area in one pack and round up. Packs are sold whole, so the calculator always rounds up.

Should laminate be left to acclimate before installation?

Yes. Leave the packs in the room for about 48 hours so the planks adjust to the temperature and humidity, and keep an expansion gap of 8–10 mm along the walls.
