Frequently asked questions

How much extra tile should I buy for cutting waste?

For straight layouts add 7–10%. For diagonal patterns or rooms with many corners and alcoves add 12–15%, which also leaves a few spare tiles for future repairs.

Does the grout gap change how many tiles I need?

Slightly. A wider joint means each tile covers a little more area including its gap, so you need fewer tiles. The calculator adds the joint width to each tile before counting.

How many boxes of tile should I order?

Divide the area to cover (plus waste) by the area in one box and round up. Tile is sold in whole boxes, so the calculator rounds up for you.

Why buy all the tile at once?

Tiles from different production batches can differ slightly in shade and size. Buying everything at once, with a few spare tiles, avoids a visible mismatch if you need to repair the floor later.
